Visual Arts, Columbia University, New York

This course examines ways of looking and ways of seeing, both personally & professionally as artists and in a larger cultural context. Through field trips to contemporary art and other cultural sites, conversations with visiting critical thinkers and practicioners, readings, discussions, and visual & written responses, we will examine how we look, think, act, create and respond--critically questioning our own artistic practices and ways of looking at the world.

Fragile fragment of nothing

The glass can not be isolated as a fragment of any composition. It contains - in itself - a polymorphic world, an autonomous world governing by its own physical laws.
The glass is discreet, but visible. The glass is simple, but complex.

The glass has a magical power of abstraction. It looks water or ice, confusion or clearness. Sometimes, the glass becomes the light which it contains.
In this way, the glass can forget itself. Maybe it's why it is always so brillant.
